The Smashing Pumpkins brought their In Ashes animated series to a close on Friday with the final episode, entitled “Lost IN The Dream Factory”. This latest and final installment provides an accompaniment to the song “Purple Blood” off the band’s new studio album, Cyr.

With Cyr‘s release last Friday and In Ashes brought to a close today, that just about closes the book on the creative projects as part of the veteran rock band’s latest studio album campaign. Frontman Billy Corgan has stated, however, that Cyr is merely volume two of a three-album saga that began with 2018’s Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1: No Past. No Future. No Sun., and will conclude with one more album to be released at a later date to be announced.

This final installment of In Ashes brings the series to a close and wraps up the dialogue-less story of our protagonists. Picking up where episode four left off, the story’s heroes are on the run from the cyborg-like villains that are hell-bent on enslaving them or destroying them in the process. Upon entering a dystopian skyscraper, they find robot copies of themselves as the reality begins to break down before their very eyes. While Corgan’s refrain of “Fever by your side/Sun is so you cannot rise” may seem ordinarily unintelligible, the lyrics make perfect sense as the final M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist is revealed.
