The Strokes have announced they will play at a free Get Out The Vote event for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (D-VT). The event will take place on February 10th at Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, NH, the night before the state’s Democratic primary.
The evening will also feature an address from Sanders before the band’s performance. The event is free, but an RSVP is encouraged, and a VIP section will be available for campaign volunteers who have knocked on 250 doors in New Hampshire. This news comes on the heels of announcements from Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend that they will also hold concert rallies in Iowa this weekend to support the senator ahead of the state’s caucus.
Strokes singer Julian Casablancas said of the event, “We are honored to be associated with such a dedicated, diligent, & trustworthy patriot—and fellow native New Yorker! As the only truly non-corporate candidate, Bernie Sanders represents our only chance to overthrow corporate power and help return America to democracy. This is why we support him.”
The rally announcement comes just days after The Strokes revealed a string of tour dates across North America. This coming spring and summer will see the band play throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in addition to previously-announced South American dates for the traveling Lollapalooza festival. Additionally, The Strokes confirmed the release of a new album in 2020 during their New Year’s Eve concert in New York.
