Billboard Magazine has compiled a list of the highest grossing musical acts from 1990-2014, and the top 5 highest earning artists do not really come much as a surprise, especially if you’re familiar with who has been on tour over the past decade. Also, if you know the touring frequency and average ticket prices of particular artists, you can predict who would most likely take the top spots. The Rolling Stones take the number one rank, earning $1,565,792,382 over 538 shows. Tickets to see the legendary Stones are usually on the pricier side,  starting in the high hundreds. The Stones started their tour with a North American leg, and are now in Europe, resuming in Oslo after a brief respite to mourn the tragic death of McJagger‘s girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott.

U2 takes the number 2 spot on the list, earning $1,514,979,793 over 526 shows. Although Bono and the boys arrived at the number 2 spot, they did so with slightly more attendees and less shows than the Rolling Stones. Bruce Springsteen is number 3 on the list, logically since it seems he’s always on tour. Despite her infamous faux pas during Avicii’s set at Ultra Music Festival two years ago, paired with the release of her album MDNA (another shoddy attempt to hop on the EDM bandwagon), Madonna comes in at number 4, grossing $1,140,230,941 over 382 shows.  Surprisingly, her MDNA tour in 2012 was her second-highest grossing tour, behind her Sticky & Sweet tour of 2008-9. Bon Jovi takes the fifth spot, earning $1,030,082,884 over 578 shows. No surprisingly, 3 out of the 5 top highest earning acts were featured in the 121212 concert for Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Other notable high-earners from the list are:  The Eagles ranking at number 10.  Their gross sales now include two reunion tours, one in 1994 and one in 2014.  Roger Waters’ gross income for his solo tours puts him at the number 12 spot, including the legenday performance of The Wall:Live in Berlin (1990) with 200,000 attendees. Paul McCartney earned himself the number 13 spot with the least amount of shows performed: 220. He continues to release dates for his 2014 Out There tour, but perhaps most of that money comes from his extravagant performance at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival last summer.
