Thundercat stepped off the bench for his first new original single in three years, a collaboration with Tame Impala titled “No More Lies”. The single arrives as the eccentric bassist’s first solo release since his 2020 album It Is What It Is.

“No More Lies” drops into a groove that is instantly Thundercat, with Tame Impala’s dreamy synthscapes coloring the edges of the song to define this unique collaboration. Lyrically, Thundercat and Tame Impala figurehead Kevin Parker tag team the difficult choice of ending a relationship that will only just continue causing hurt for each party. Thundercat speaks his part plainly, admitting at one point, “There’s so much work to do, so much to unpack / But it’s not your fault, I’m just kind of an ass.”

“I’ve wanted to work with Kevin since the very first Tame Impala album,” Thundercat said. “I feel that I knew that us working together would be special. I’ve been excited about this song for a long time and hope to create more with Kevin in the future.”

In the three years since releasing It Is What It Is, Thundercat has kept busy with collaborations and other special projects. He appeared on guest-filled albums by Gorillaz, Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars‘ Silk Sonic, and DOMi & JD Beck as well as contributed a cover of “Fly Like An Eagle” to the Minions: The Rise of Gru soundtrack last summer. That same star-studded tribute to the ’60s and ’70s also heard Tame Impala team up with iconic singer Diana Ross on the original song “Turn Up The Sunshine“.

This summer, Thundercat will travel the globe for a mix of solo dates and shows opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers. Tickets and a full list of tour dates are available here.
