Cross-genre bassist Thundercat has once again defied classification by now jumping mediums to television and writing a song for the Thundercats Roar animated series.
The show is a reboot of the original Thundercats cartoon that ran from 1985 to 1989. While the new Thundercats Roar, airing on Cartoon Network, has so far not been as well-received as the original series or the 2011 reboot, we hope the contributions from Thundercat, born Stephen Bruner, will help.

Announced during a virtual Comic Con panel on Thursday, the song written by Thundercat for the series will serve to announce the arrival Grune The Destroyer, a character from the original series that Bruner will also voice. While most children in Cartoon Network’s target demographics might not be familiar with the jazz/hip-hop bassist, his lighthearted songwriting will hopefully translate to a new generation of fans. Thundercat is also no stranger to themes of cartoon and animation, as he wrote an entire song about his favorite anime-inspired piece of clothing, “Dragonball Durag“, on his most recent album, It Is What It Is.
Listen to the new Thundercat song, set to appear in the forthcoming second season of Thundercats Roar.
