Even as he prepares for the release of his 19th studio album, First Agnostic Church of Hope and WonderTodd Snider has kept up with his responsibilities with the weekly livestream, The Get Together, each Sunday. This past week saw the folk troubadour go live from his Purple Building studio in Nashville for a full set of Bob Dylan covers. Since then, Snider has shared his takes on “Maggie’s Farm” and “Subterranean Homesick Blues” culled from the stream.

Taken from 1965’s historic Bringing It All Back Home, Snider’s rendition of “Maggie’s Farm” is a bit of a paradox. The album was notably Dylan’s first foray into electric sounds, a move which stunned—and angered—his large devotion of folk-loving followers. Yet here from the confines of the Purple Building, Snider gives the song his classic acoustic flair. Clearly a devoted follower of Dylan himself, Snider imbues the electric classic with the iconic acoustic nature of Dylan’s early work—harmonica included—in a cross-genre melting pot satisfying for fans of both singer-songwriters.

Also appearing on Bringing It All Back Home is “Subterranean Homesick Blues”. Once again translating the classic electric work to solo acoustic, Snider delivers the song’s iconic motormouth lyrics as if he was reading them off the inside of his eyelids. Cracking the occasional smile, Snider is still amused by the song’s witticisms after decades of listening and interpretation.

Watch Todd Snider cover Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm” and “Subterranean Homesick Blues” from last week’s special installment of The Get Together, or the entire stream.
