On his latest Under The Scales podcast, lyricist Tom Marshall welcomes musician and multi-platinum songwriter/producer Dan Kanter. The two are connected uniquely through the band Phish. While Marshall wrote songs for the Vermont band, Kanter is the musical director and former lead guitarist for Justin Bieber, and has performed and directed countless other top-name pop stars.

The two begin the episode by reminiscing the crossover between pop and jam, before bringing Phish frontman Trey Anastasio to the mic for a full interview. The hour-long episode is dedicated to a full rig rundown, but becomes a beautiful conversation of the arts between three very influential figures; inspirations, setlists, song choices, and guitars. Take a listen for some great stories, and insightful information from Tom Marshall, Dan Kanter, and Trey Anastasio below:

Since the topic of guitar rigs did not get proper attention, “Under the Scales” will return with part two of this episode to REALLY dig into Trey’s guitars. More information can be found here.
