Trey Anastasio Band kicked off their winter tour Friday night at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, where Anastasio poked fun at his ill-fated acrobatics from New Year’s Eve with Phish.

TAB started their first of two shows at the Capitol right where New Year’s Eve at Madison Square Garden left off, with a tongue-in-cheek debut of The Beatles‘ “I’m Down”. After that joke, the band appeared to get down to business with “Set Your Soul Free” and “Sidewalks of San Francisco”, followed by regulars “Undermind”, “Drifting”, “Olivia”, and “Blaze On”. However, it was during “Blaze On” that Anastasio circled back around to NYE by changing the lyrics to “You think the Earth is flat/You think the Deep State’s true/You probably think I wasn’t really stuck up there too.” This of course was a gentle jab at the conspiracy-minded folks who think that his peril was all part of the act.

The set continued with “Camel Walk”, followed by another TAB debut with “Love Is What We Are” which was written by Anastasio and Nashville songwriter Gary Nicholson and performed only once by Phish on 7/14/17 in Chicago. The set then closed with “Money, Love and Change”.

The second set began with the debut of “Sigma Oasis”, which proved to be the final debut of an exciting evening. The rest of the set continued with Trey originals “Night Speaks To Woman”, “About To Run”, “Valentine”, “Alaska”, and “Shade”. The set moved into Phish territory once again with “Gotta Jibboo”, then a customary TAB cover of Gorillaz‘s “Clint Eastwood” which segued into “Simple Twist Up Dave” to close the set.

The band came back out for a triple encore of “Ether Sunday”, “Shine”, and “Show of Life”.
