On Friday night, Trey Anastasio Band offered up the final Main Stage performance at the second day of LOCKN’ 2019. As previously planned, Derek Trucks joined the band for the entirety of the second set as well as the encore.

Trey Anastasio and his band—comprised of Russ Lawton (drums), Tony Markellis (bass), Cyro Baptista (percussion), Ray Paczkowski (keys), Jennifer Hartswick (trumpet, vocals), Natalie Cressman (trombone, vocals), and James Casey (saxophone, vocals)—opened up their first set with “Cayman Review” before working through a series of TAB staples including “Mozambique”, “Alive Again”, “Valentine”, “Night Speaks To A Woman”, “Simple Twist Up Dave”, and a set-closing “Tuesday”.

Following a brief set break, TAB returned to the stage with slide guitar wizard Derek Trucks and opened up the second set with “Set Your Soul Free” and “Everything’s Right”, two tracks that debuted with TAB and quickly found their way into Phish‘s regular rotation. Trey and Derek traded off a series off red-hot guitar solos, backed by Lawton, Markellis, and Baptista’s hard-hitting rhythm section. The band continued on with “Camel Walk”, “Ghost”, and “Blaze On”, allowing Trucks an opportunity to flex his chops on a series of Phish songs.

Moving out of “Blaze On”, the ensemble worked through a roaring “Dark and Down” before Trey let out the opening riff for “Sand”. Once again, “Sand” featured some explosive interplay between Anastasio and Trucks as the two guitarists wowed the crowd with an ever-evolving peak. Following “Sand”, Trey invited up Derek’s wife Susan Tedeschi to share the vocal lead on “A Life Beyond The Dream” and “Rise/Come Together”, which featured some delicate slide work out of Trucks’ corner. Following Susan’s guest appearance, Trey Anastasio Band and Derek Trucks closed out the second frame with “Push On ‘Til The Day”.

Trey and Derek returned with their acoustic guitars to open up the four-song encore with “Brief Time”, a Ghosts of The Forest tune that recently found its way into TAB’s regular rotation. The duo moved forward with a tender take on “More” before inviting the band back up to close out the mind-bending performance with “46 Days” and “First Tube”.
