Today is Trey Anastasio‘s 56th birthday! Born on September 30th, 1964, Phish‘s fearless leader may not have had the most expected trip around the sun for much of this year, but he still managed to stay busy. Prior to the shutdown of live music, Big Red reunited with Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland to revive the long-dormant Oysterhead project with a pair of shows in Colorado. As quarantine put a halt to live music, stalling Phish’s show count for 2020 at a mere four, Anastasio still kept us entertained with a steady stream of new songs coming out almost weekly from his Brooklyn apartment. Then came the release of Phish’s widely heralded 15th studio album, Sigma Oasis, as well as Trey’s solo album, Lonely Trip, comprised of his quarantine material. With so many accomplishments for a highly unconventional year, and a birthday to celebrate, let’s look back at just a few of the many memorable Trey Anastasio moments over the years.
