On Wednesday night, Trey Anastasio continued his ongoing solo acoustic tour with a performance at Canton, OH’s Palace Theatre.

After opening the show with “Snowflakes In The Sand” and “More”, Trey thanked the crowd for having him and expressed his gratitude to be back in the area. As he loves to do at his solo acoustic shows, Trey then launched into some comical banter. “Who’s in the house tonight? Is Cleveland in the house? I’ve never done the ‘in the house’ thing before, this is new. Is Akron in the house? Pittsburgh in the house? Sorry, I’m gonna get into some gang warfare that I don’t know anything about [laughs].”

Trey continued on with Phish staples “Waste”, “Halley’s Comet”, “Blaze On”, “If I Could”, and “Steam”.  Trey went on to profess his love for the television show Naked and Afraid, explaining that he watches the show on his tour bus. “I think they should do one in suburbia on a golf course. That would be unbelievable… you know? And that’s that. You know, one time I was playing at [Ohio’s] Blossom [Music Center] and I went up to the microphone and made this wish to the universe, that one of my favorite bands [Ween] would get back together. And it came true! It was that easy. Now, for the record, since they’re both friends of mine, I had nothing to do with that at all, but—Aaron [Freeman] and Mickey [Melchiondo]—I know you’re rolling your eyes right now even though I actually did have a lot to do with it [laughs]. I would like please, for Christmas, the original four-piece Talking Heads to get back together at least for one show. Two times this is gonna work! I was lucky enough to see that band one time—incredible. One of the greatest bands of all time. Anyway, I’ve said it, so here we go universe!”

Trey then went into “Water In The Sky” followed by “Mountains In The Mist”, “Back On The Train”, “Limb By Limb”, “Ghost Of The Forest”, “Miss You”, “Ghost”, “All Of These Dreams”, “The Inlaw Josie Wales”, “Free”, “Theme From The Bottom”, “Bouncing Around The Room”, “Gumbo”, and “Alaska”. The last and only other acoustic “Alaska” was played on July 6th, 2008 at Rothbury Festival. Following “Chalk Dust Torture”, Trey moved into a story about the band playing Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival in 1999.

“We got [Jon] Fishman this cowboy hat. He was wearing this big, white, like, clownishly ridiculous cowboy hat and his dress with these rotten sneakers that were like 100 years old. Standing backstage, when musicians walked by, like [ZZ Top’s] Billy Gibbons, he would say [in a southern accent], ‘Hey, I’m Fish from Phish’.” As Trey explained, since Fish was standing next to a whiteboard where bands and crew members could write out their frustrations with the festival, most people instead just took stabs at Phish. Fishman would then say, “Wait just a doggone minute. This is the ‘suck board’.” Trey went on to proclaim, “This is one of my greatest memories—the three of us watching Fish. I don’t know if I can do it justice, but you need to use your imagination.”

Trey’s set continued with “Fee”, “Summer of ’89”, “Carini”, “Sleeping Monkey”, “Backwards Down The Number Line”, and a set-closing take on “Bathtub Gin”. Trey finally returned to deliver a four-song encore of “Strange Design”, “Shade”, “Wilson”, and “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.”.
