On Wednesday night, Trey Anastasio made his way to Dayton, OH’s Victoria Theatre for the second show on his fall 2019 solo acoustic tour.

Per Phish.net, the set featured renditions of a number of Phish and Trey Anastasio Band staples including “Free”, “Bouncing Around the Room”, “The Horse > Silent in the Morning”, “Winterqueen”, “Blaze On”, “Dirt”, “Rise/Come Together”, “Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan”, “Steam”, “Dog Faced Boy”, “Farmhouse”, “Summer of ’89”, “Back on the Train”, “Joy”, “NICU”, “If I Could”, “Miss You”, “Set Your Soul Free”, “Gumbo”, “Everything’s Right”, “The Inlaw Josie Wales”, and a set-closing “The Lizards”.

The biggest surprise of the night, however, came during Trey’s four-song encore. After opening his curtain call with poignant instrumental “Till We Meet Again”, composed for his late friend Chris “C-Cott” Cottrell, and fan-favorite Phish slacker ballad “Waste”, Trey had a bright idea. As he began what sounded like a new arrangement, he noted “I’m just making this up as I go along, I’m gonna try it” before launching into a timely rendition of Oysterhead‘s “Mr. Oysterhead”.

The crowd responded with audible (and visible) excitement to the acoustic debut. The excitement over Oysterhead, Trey’s long-dormant supergroup featuring Les Claypool (Primus) and Stewart Copeland (The Police), is at an all-time high this week following the announcement that the trio will regroup for their first two shows since 2006 at Broomfield, CO’s 1STBANK Center on February 14th and 15th of next year. The band’s reunion announcement was centered around this particular song’s lyrics: “When all else has been done and said… along comes Mr. Oysterhead”. Trey finally finished out the show with a sing-along rendition of “More”.
