My Morning Jacket welcomed Trey Anastasio to the stage on Wednesday to help open the band’s annual One Big Holiday destination event at the Moon Palace Resort in Mexico. Anastasio’s latest appearance in Cancún follows the completion of the guitarist’s own four-night concert event with Phish at the resort/music venue on Sunday.

Trey emerged from his bungalow to assist on a cover-filled encore for MMJ. This came as the third band Anastasio has played with on the Moon Palace stage in the last two weeks, as he also joined Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds on the closing night of their Riviera Maya event which immediately preceded Phish’s. Dave wound up sticking around to return the favor during the single-set opening night of Phish: Riveria Maya days later.

Coming at the end of a bust-out filled show—featuring the re-emergence of “Welcome Home”, “Sooner”, “Aluminum Park”, Carl Broemel‘s “Carried Away”, and “Strangulation”—frontman Jim James welcomed Trey to the stage for Elton John‘s “Rocket Man”. The combination, dubbed “MMTrey” by the jam Twitterverse, saw Anastasio and James share vocal duties.

The Phish guitarist hung around as the dive bar rock n’ roll decadence of The Rolling Stones “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” blared with Trey manning Keith Richards duties on MMJ’s debut of the Sticky Fingers track. The cover stretched toward the 10-minute mark, with  multi-instrumentalist Carl Broemel keeping the peace on saxophone while Jim and Trey duked it out on guitar. The sit-in and the show then came to a close as Trey lent his hand to My Morning Jacket’s own “Mahgeetah” from 2003’s It Still Moves.

Check out some fan-shot videos from Trey Anastasio’s guest appearance on the opening night of My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday in Mexico. For those wondering, the next concert at Moon Palace after MMJ is Tai Verdes on the 16th, so here’s hoping we get to see Trey jam out some pop-hop in a couple weeks.
