Trey Anastasio closed out his triumphant return to the stage at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Sunday as the Phish guitarist celebrated his first post-pandemic run of concerts.

Following Friday night’s momentous opener and a Saturday show that featured a guest appearance by Page McConnell, Sunday’s show saw reality take effect. Opening up solo with an acoustic “Carini”, Trey acknowledged the lyrical connection to Father’s Day (“he went across the street and he called his dad”), dedicating the song to the dads in the crowd. Solo renditions of “Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan” and “Free” followed before Trey brought out keyboardist Jeff Tanski for “Reba”.

Prior to the Phish classic, Trey revealed how Jeff had “sav[ed] my life” during lockdown when the two were able to convene for marathon jam sessions like the one contained in “Reba”. Before bringing out The Rescue Squad Strings for “Strange Design”, Trey talked about how he wrote the song just before he became a father. The first acoustic “Drift While You’re Sleeping” came next, after which Trey was left alone for “Ghost” and “Farmhouse”.

Tanski would emerge for “Ghosts of the Forest” followed by the return of The Rescue Squad Strings for “Light”. The literal game of musical chairs continued as the ensemble left the guitarist for solo takes on “Bathtub Gin” and “NICU” before Jeff came back out for “Dirt” and an emotional “Miss You”.

The Rescue Squad Strings returned to the stage for “Till We Meet Again”, before a solo Trey “Tube”, a Tanski and Strings-assisted “The Lizards” and “Slave to the Traffic Light”. Trey had one more solo song with “Possum” before the expansive acoustic debut of “You Enjoy Myself” with Tanski and the Rescue Squad Strings brought the set to a close.

Upon returning to the stage, the complete ensemble took on the frequent encore of “A Life Beyond A Dream” before the acoustic debut of “Tweezer Reprise” brought the run to a close.
