Trey Anastasio has shared his latest quarantine song, entitled “The Silver Light”. The video finds the Phish guitarist utilizing rolls of toilet paper and a bottle of hand sanitizer as percussive instruments.

“The Silver Light” marks a decisive move back to the simple, acoustic sounds found in Trey’s first few quarantine songs. At one point, his original compositions, like “I Never Needed You Like This Before“, “Lotus” and several others, had gotten so produced that it sounded like an entire band was stuck in his apartment with him. On “The Silver Light”, however, Trey scales things back and even turns his attention to percussion.

As Trey’s quarantine songwriting style develops, so too does his music video filmmaking. For “The Silver Light” we find Trey standing at his kitchen counter with two rolls of toilet paper, a bottle of hand sanitizer, and a microphone. After a quick soundcheck of the “instruments”, Trey hits play on his pre-recorded vocal loop that sounds like part of a “You Enjoy Myself” vocal jam. Enter an acoustic guitar and Trey’s overladen vocals and the song kicks off with the chorus “The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be/Everflowing, never knowing, in sense it’s only me.” While there is a guitar on the track, the focus here is clearly the percussion.

For those counting, “The Silver Light” is the twelfth song Trey has released from quarantine, (following “My World Is My Home“, “Are You There Colleen?”“Lonely Trip”“Shaking Someone’s Outstretched Hand”“I Never Left Home”“Lotus”“When The Words Go Away”“Timeless”“I Never Needed You Like This Before”“The Greater Good”, and “Lost In The Pack”). All of this is in addition to the new Phish album, Sigma Oasis, that the band released last week. While the future of concerts and live events is uncertain, Trey clearly has plenty to keep him busy through a long quarantine.

“The Silver Light” lyrics

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

I see things no others sees

Like angels on a summer’s breeze

Or demons in the silver light

That spills across my desk at night

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

I hear things no others hear

The whispers in your lover’s ear

The songs of pain that loss may bring

Which ghostly voices nightly sing

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

I feel things no others feel

And wear long garments to conceal

The moon burn from the forgotten light

That spills across my desk at night

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

The silver light that falls at night, reminds me what it’s like to be

Ever flowing, never knowing, in a sense it’s only me

In a sense it’s only me

In sense it’s only me

In a sense it’s only me
