Despite the fact he is now 14 albums into the game, Ty Segall felt the need to reintroduce himself with his next solo LP, “Hello, Hi”. Out on July 22nd via Drag City, the 10-track offering will arrive barely a year after Harmonizer and just months after the underground multi-hyphenate’s original soundtrack to the documentary Whirlybird.

As is customary, “Hello, Hi” marks another stylistic shift for Segall. Following the synthesizer-laced minimalism of Harmonizer“Hello, Hi” hears a recommitment to more traditional elements as Ty balances acoustic and electric sounds with a healthy amount of overdubbing. The multi-instrumentalist’s quarantine brain is still on display as keeps much of the production in-house, in addition to generally reintroducing himself back into the world as the title may suggest.

“Tossing down straight acoustic shots with electric guitar back, “Hello, Hi” rides through the valley of yer ol’ Canyon legends, finding an isolated place to unspool Ty’s copious reserves of nervous energy beneath an open sky,” Drag City’s promo copy stated. “Swarms of harmony vocals caper among the clouds, but there’s a rider on the horizon, crossbow trained upon his very heart: the engine driving all the relationships of life, whether down Broadway or over the cliffs at night! Whatever doesn’t get killed is getting stronger all the time. A lean, mean deal, baked in saltwater and sunlight, compassion pouring out it’s beautiful blue eyes.”
