Oh Boy Records has shared Tyler Childers‘ contribution of “Yes I Guess They Oughtta Name A Drink After You” for the upcoming John Prine tribute album. Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine Vol. 2 is set to arrive on October 8th.

One of Prine’s countless disciples dotting the country-folk scene, Childers cherry-picked this Diamonds In The Rough track that is just that. The song’s swinging, honky-tonk feel meshes perfectly with the Kentucky-bred singer-songwriter’s style. The vivid imagery of drunken nights and endless fights echoes so many characters found in Childers’ own songbook, breathing—just as Prine did—these lifelike caricatures of the Midwest into existence.

Even with the release date for Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows Vol. 2 just around the corner, very little is still known about the project. Since quietly announcing the album in March with Brandi Carlile‘s cover of “I Remember Everything” (released just a day after her stirring tribute at the 2021 Grammys), Oh Boy has yet to reveal a tracklist or personnel. Aside from the previously released covers from Carlile, Sturgill Simpson‘s rendition of “Paradise”, and now Childers’ “Name A Drink After You”, all that is known about Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine Vol. 2 is that it’s a 12-track release out on October 8th.
