When Umphrey’s McGee announced their New Years plans, one date was conspicuously absent: January 1st. Now, we know why.

Today, UM revealed that they would be screening an archival film titled Reel To Real as a benefit for the charity group Conscious Alliance. Created with Nothing Too Fancy Music, the band’s own record label, Reel To Real is “(a) Nothing Too Fancy Music retrospective. Comprised of unseen footage from the camcorder archives, join us as we take you on a visual journey into the early touring years of the band. A candid, home movie feel dominates this illuminating and absurd collection of clips from the vault. From recording Anchor Drops to round-robin arm wrestling tournaments in a Super 8, it’s will be an unscripted ride through UM lore.”

The January 1st event will start with drinks and refreshments before launching into a premiere of the film. After Reel To Real, the band will perform a set of music while explaining the stories behind some of their classic music. Ticket holders will get to choose the songs performed as well, as the band tells the stories behind the music’s inception.

The whole up-close-and-personal performance goes down at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO, and tickets will be released on October 1st at 12:00 PM MT, with a pre-sale for umVIPs on September 31st at 12:00 PM MT. More information can be found here.
