Following a string of recent COVID-related cancellations, Umphrey’s McGee reconnected with fans over the weekend by sharing a Best of Midwest ’21 compilation. The three-hour video stitches together the recent second sets from 8/13/21 in Milwaukee and 8/14/21 in Minneapolis.
Both shows feature strong outings from UM, with the Milwaukee second set opening up with “Attachments” into “Speak Up”, followed by a sandwich of “Tribulations” between “Mulche’s Odyssey”. Minneapolis is no slouch either, from the second set opening “Higgins” into “Miss Tinkle’s Overture” and a “Red Tape” that saw teases of Ozzy Osbourne‘s “Crazy Train” in the jam. Umphrey’s also included the “Slacker” encore from the 8/14 show.
“Since we can’t be with you in person this weekend, let’s all gather around the YouTube and relive the best of our Midwest ’21 run,” the band wrote in the video’s description. “Truth is we’re just being representative of the Midwest.”
In addition to the archival material, Best of Midwest ’21 includes a special setbreak appearance by Andy Farag. Any hopes of a special announcement or even playful banter were slowly but surely crushed throughout the five minutes of the percussionist silently thumbing through the Great American Burger Book lakeside.
