Umphrey’s McGee announced on Thursday that the band’s planned three-night 2021–2022 New Year’s Eve run at The Fillmore Miami in Florida will not take place due to COVID-19. Additionally, the band has scrapped its January 14th and 15th, 2022 shows at Terminal 5 in New York, NY.

“It is with perpetual frustration and utter disappointment that we announce the cancellation of our upcoming Miami and New York shows,” Umphrey’s McGee wrote in a statement. “There is nothing we’d rather be doing to ring in the new year than playing for you. But reality continues to bite.”

The band pointed to rapidly rising COVID cases across the country that are likely only to further multiply in light of the holiday season, stating, “The complexities of this virus, the logistics of event production, and the increasing difficulties of access to timely testing (for band/crew, venue staff, and fans for entry) remain an unending battle.”

Umphrey’s also alluded to positive COVID cases within the band’s own circles of friends, families, and peers without explicitly stating that anyone in the band has tested positive.

Ticket-holders for the Umphrey’s McGee New Year’s Eve run in Miami will receive a 100% refund through the point of purchase. The band will also refund tickets, umVIP packages, and headphone purchases for its shows at Terminal 5 in New York City on January 14th and 15th.

As of this publication, the band’s shows in Buffalo, NY (1/20/22), Syracuse, NY (1/21/22), and Albany, NY (1/22/22) are still set to occur as planned. Visit Umphrey’s McGee’s website for more information. Scroll down to see the band’s full statement.

It is with perpetual frustration and utter disappointment that we announce the cancellation of our upcoming Miami and New York City shows. There is nothing we’d rather be doing to ring in the new year than playing for you. But reality continues to bite.

Rapidly spiking case counts across the country are making large indoor gatherings riskier, even more so as people gather for the holidays and increase travel. The complexities of this virus, the logistics of event production, and the increasing difficulties of access to timely testing (for band/crew, venue staff, and fans for entry) remain an unending battle.

As a growing circle of family, friends and peers continue to contract the virus, UM and our promoters are in agreement that pulling off safe, responsible, and successful events is not realistic.

We’re incredibly grateful and truly sorry. It sucks.

100% of tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase, including all umVIP packages and headphones purchases.

We appreciate each and everyone of you and wish you a safe holiday. Until we ride again…onward & upward.
