Umphrey’s McGee rolled into Grand Rapids, MI on Thursday for a show at Frederik Meijer Gardens as part of the “Fifth Third Bank Concert Series at Meijer Gardens”. The show saw the band perform “Dee” for the first time in nearly eight years.

Before the show even started, Thursday’s concert was a special occasion as it marked a (belated) birthday celebration for singer/guitarist Brendan Bayliss who turned 45 on Wednesday. The band delivered a bevy of their beloved rockers, starting with the “Rocker Part 2” opener. Umphrey’s managed to fit a “No Comment” into a “Utopian Fir” sandwich, which rolled into “End of the Road”. A run through “Spires” took a detour through Toto‘s “Africa” before segueing into “All In Time” to close the set.

Returning for the second frame, Umphrey’s opened things up with “Blue Echo” before transitioning into a “Believe the Lie” that featured teases of “Spirit of the Radio” by Rush. Noted oenophile Brendan Bayliss lived it up during “Women Wine and Song” before “The Triple Wide” set up a jam that rolled straight into “Hajimemashite” prior to a pairing of “Prowler” and “Wife Soup” that wrapped set.

For an encore, Umphrey’s McGee dusted off “Dee” for the first time since 10/25/13 or 648 shows (per All Things Umphreys) and ultimately closed the show with “Roctopus”.
