Umphrey’s McGee and moe. both played shows in Portland, OR this past Friday, and the two jam giants made sure to pop by and wish each other luck.
At moe.’s concert at Revolution Hall, Umphrey’s guitarist Brendan Bayliss helped the Buffalo-native group open up their show by sitting in on “Crab Eyes”. Afterward, he high-tailed it across town to his own gig at Crystal Ballroom, where Andy Frasco & The U.N. opened the show for the progressive rockers. During the second set, Umphrey’s welcomed Frasco to the stage for an appropriate “Andy’s Last Beer”, where the party monster didn’t so much as sit in, rather he stood around chugging a seemingly never-ending supply of beers from his hoodie pocket. Once Frasco had finally exhausted all of his alcohol, he left the stage in style by crowd surfing across the audience.
The party still wasn’t over, however, as Umphrey’s returned for an encore of the ’80s anthem “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds, where they were joined once again by Frasco, as well as moe. guitarist Al Schnier. Bayliss prefaced Schnier’s appearance by humbly saying, “When I was in college, I never imagined this guy would walk on this stage with us.” This time, Frasco lent his musical talent to the song, rather than just his penchant for partying, as he sang the song’s eponymous chorus to close the show.
