Umphrey’s McGee has released a new album with the impossibly long title, You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall And Left A Raging Bull. The LP marks the band’s first full-length studio release since the it’s not usit’s you companion albums from 2018.

The latest studio output from Umphrey’s McGee features a collection of 12 songs the band has used as “walk-up” music at concerts dating back to 2009. These intro pieces are often used in a live setting as musical springboards that launch the band and its fans into inspired improvisation right off the rip. You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots was recorded entirely during quarantine from each band members’ respective home bases and studios, allowing each member to take a new, individual look at each composition. One song in particular, “Restrung”, is a renamed and retooled version of “Unsung Hero”, which the band debuted on 5/25/19.

“It’s the same chords and song form, but entirely different melodies, soundscapes, and vibe,” the band wrote in a statement. “UM has brought the track to life for the big stage, bringing the team approach to this sonic missile. Brace for impact.”

To celebrate the release of the new album, Umphrey’s McGee will take over SiriusXM‘s JamOn this weekend and deliver track-by-track commentary for the new product. Additionally, JamOn will air six entire Umphrey’s McGee concerts this weekend, each one hand-picked by a different member of the band. Scroll down to see a full broadcast schedule.

As for the album’s mouthful of a title, it goes back to the time UM guitarist Jake Cinninger sat in with Los Lobos when the SoCal rockers opened the show during an Umphrey’s New Year’s Eve run at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom. Cinninger recently told the story in detail in an animated short directed by Pete Herzog.
