Umphrey’s McGee has announced plans for the band’s June 27th show at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY, which will stream as Rambling On: An Evening Of Mostly True Tales. The interactive concert—which will also feature a live audience—will see the band taking pre-written questions from online audiences.
Next Sunday’s show will mark Umphrey’s McGee’s first appearance at the upstate venue founded by The Band drummer Levon Helm. Toward the end of his life, following multiple bouts with cancer, the Southern gentleman opened up his barn for a series of benefit concerts billed as the Midnight Rambles. Even nine years after his passing, Helm’s barn venue still hosts an array of acts in an intimate setting.
“To honor the legacy of community and camaraderie that Levon fostered, UM is pleased to announce Rambling On, an evening of mostly true tales live from the Barn,” Umphrey’s McGee wrote in a press release. “Interspersed throughout the show, the band will share recollections from the road, stories of the studio, tales of tunes and other alliterative shenanigans.”
Fans will have the opportunity to ask the band any burning question or “(likely untrue) rumoried story” they’re curious about using this form. Livestream tickets are available here for the sold-out show, which will air on June 27th at 8 p.m. ET.
Additionally, Umphrey’s McGee has also issued the second single from the band’s upcoming album, You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall And Left A Raging Bull, entitled “Restrung”. Unlike all of the other songs on the new album—with the fellow exception of “Le Sac”—”Restrung” has not yet been performed live, with the rest of the album composed of songs UM typically uses to open concerts. According to a statement from the band, however, “Restrung” is simply a reworked “Unsung Hero”, a song the band debuted on 5/25/19 at Summer Camp Music Festival and has been performed five times since.
“It’s the same chords and song form, but entirely different melodies, soundscapes, and vibe,” the band wrote. “UM has brought the track to life for the big stage, bringing the team approach to this sonic missile. Brace for impact.”
