Umphrey's McGee Brings The Jams, Covers Soundgarden At Westville Music Bowl Closer [Photos/Videos]

Umphrey’s McGee returned to New Haven, CT’s new Westville Music Bowl on Saturday night to round out a two-night run as part of the band’s ongoing Plan Bee Tour.

The band got the standout show started hot and heavy with an opening “Get In The Van” and a top-notch “2×2” in the 2-slot. “The Silent Type” and a pairing of “Cemetary Walk” and “Cemetary Walk II” paved the way for a set-closing “Uncommon” >”Dump City” segment.

Umphrey’s returned for set two with towering “Mantis” complete with a “Cat Scratch Fever” jam before flowing into “Day Nurse”. The “Ringo” that followed firmly established itself as a “jam of the night” contender in a show packed with two distinct improv sections and a “Dump City” tease.

The thrills continued with the first run through “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” in 115 shows that segued into a fiery “Crucial Taunt”. From there, “Miami Virtue” led the band back into “Mantis”, finishing the set back where it started.

As cheers echoed through the sparsely-filled stadium, the band returned to the stage to encore with the band’s third-ever cover of Soundgarden‘s “Outshined” followed by a triumphant “Den”.

Umphrey’s McGee’s Plan Bee Tour continues this weekend with a pair of shows at Bridgeview, IL’s SeatGeek Stadium this Friday and Saturday. For a full list of upcoming Umphrey’s tour dates, head here.
