Vida Blue continued its brief reunion tour of shows along the east coast on Friday with a celebratory performance at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, PA. The quartet led by keyboardist Page McConnell (Phish), Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Company, Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit), Russell Batiste (The funky METERS), and newly added guitarist Adam Zimmon (Shakira, Ziggy Marley) filled their sixteen-song performance mostly with a mix of originals from their newly-released studio album, Crossing Lines, which arrived on Friday.

The band appropriately opened the show with the lead track from Crossing Lines in “Analog Delay”, a song which is every big as spacey and futuristic as it sounds. The quartet continued with “Real Underground Soul Sound”, followed by the quirky and fun “Where Did It Go”. The group then turned to the tracklisting from their 2002 self-titled debut for the performances of “Electra Glide” and “CJ3”. They then returned to the new material with the smoother vibes of “Phaidon”, featuring some wonderful lead guitar work from Zimmon on the easy-flowing tune.

Next up was the live debut of another new song in “Checking Out”. The funky original was followed by a few more songs off of Vida Blue with “Where’s Popeyes” and “Who’s Laughing Now?” before they continued with the new “Weepa” and “If I Told You”. Following the group’s performance of “Final Flight”, Vida Blue delivered their first cover of the night with their take on Pink Floyd‘s “Sheep”, which was followed by “Most Events Aren’t Planned” to close the set.

The two-song encore saw the members return to the stage for end-of-the-night performances of “Maybe”, and their cover of Gary Numan‘s 1979 new wave hit, “Cars”.
