Leftover Salmon frontman Vince Herman and bluegrass torchbearer Sam Grisman have announced a duo tour with shows around the Northeast in January.

The Winter 2025 Northeast Fun Run is set to kick off Wednesday, January 22nd at Sony Hall in NYC. From there, the duo will head to Troy Music Hall in Troy, NY the following night (1/23) before continuing to City Winery Boston on the 24th. The trek will conclude Saturday, January 25th at The Waldo Theatre in Waldoboro, ME.

“For as long as I can remember I’ve been encountering the great Vince Herman out in the wild with Leftover Salmon,” Sam Grisman wrote in a post announcing the duo run. “I grew up going to festivals with my pop David Grisman, and we would always have a great time playing music and spending time with Vinny anytime we crossed paths. He’s always been someone who I’ve looked up to as a positive force in our music scene and like me, he’s always game for some good tunes. Vince and I are looking forward to pairing up and picking and puffing our way through some of our favorite songs for all of you fine north-easterners for these special intimate DUO shows.”

Tickets for the Vince Herman and Sam Grisman Duo Winter 2025 Northeast Fun Run are on sale now via Sam Grisman’s website.

The partnership between Herman and Grisman reflects that between Grisman’s father David Grisman and Jerry Garcia, albeit with different instrumentation since the younger Grisman plays bass rather than mandolin like his dad. The origins of the Grisman/Garcia duo stemmed from a chance meeting 60 years ago when the pair first connected at a Bill Monroe show at Sunset Park, in West Grove, PA. They later played together in Old & In The Way alongside Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, and John Kahn in the 1970s and recorded a series of duo albums in the ’90s, at the peak of the Grateful Dead’s touring career, including the Grammy-nominated Jerry Garcia/David Grisman, Shady Grove, and Not For Kids Only. Next month, on December 13th, David Grisman will release a three-volume collection of previously uncirculated recordings from that period with the Bare Bones archival series.
