Over the weekend, the highly anticipated annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival kicked off down in the Crescent City. As is tradition, New Orleans will become a mecca for musicians and music lovers for the festival’s two-week span, with venues across the city hosting a number of late-night parties after the festival’s official Fairground activities wrap up. On Friday night, Voodoo Dead was one such after-party, with the New Orleans-flavored, all-star Grateful Dead tribute taking over The Republic.

An infrequent side project—though the crew came together for two performances this year at Jam Cruise 16—born at Jazz Fest a few years ago, Voodoo Dead sports a rotating lineup of high-profile musicians, with Friday’s edition featuring George Porter Jr.,  Steve Kimock, Jackie Greene, Jeff Chimenti, JM Kimock, and Wally Ingram. With these notable names lineup, the band also invited young guitar prodigy, Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, to join them, who was fresh off a string of standout sit-ins and shows with his band during Atlanta’s SweetWater 420 Festival the weekend before.
