Last month, The Rolling Stones shared their previously-unreleased recording (and music video) of “Scarlet”, a swampy vintage rock song which was initially tracked in October 1974, but never saw the light of day. The recording features guest playing from guitarist Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) and bassist Ric Grech (Blind Faith) and will be included on the band’s forthcoming deluxe reissue of 1973’s Goat’s Head Soup, due out in September.

The Rolling Stones have now shared a brand new version of the song as remixed by indie rock veterans The War On Drugs.

The new recording released on Friday hears the song begin with slightly altered sonics for the guitar riff opening and during the first verse. The song really opens up with noticeable differences, however, at the start of the first chorus line as The War On Drugs has applied a double-time tempo to the chorus with enough energy to make it sound like more of a pop song circa the 1980s.
