John Mayer, who is currently the interim host for CBS’s The Late Late Show, had Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir on his show last night. Weir played two songs with Mayer, “Truckin'” and “Althea,” and sat down for an interview, where he discussed the upcoming “Fare Thee Well” 50th reunion shows.

Talking about the reunion band’s name, he said “I think the Grateful Dead, you can’t… when half of those guys are pushing up daisies, you can’t call it that.” Mayer admitted that he would be “making the pilgrimage [to Chicago] in [his] RV.”

This was also Weir’s first appearance with a guitar in hand since he abruptly cancelled his summer tour in August. He’s in fine form for the two songs performed, which you can view below:
