When Neil Young put out the song “Alabama” in 1972, it was immediately deemed controversial. So much so, in fact, that Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote the song “Sweet Home Alabama” as a response, greatly eclipsing Young’s track in popularity. Eventually, Neil Young shelved the track, only performing in once in 1977 as a tribute to the members of Skynyrd who had passed away in a plane crash.
Some 38 years later, Young dusted off the old Harvest classic at Farm Aid 30. Backed by Promise of the Real, the set included some new tunes from The Monsanto Years album that dropped earlier this year, as well as a new song potentially titled “I Won’t Quit”. Check out “Alabama” below:
