On Friday, February 12th, Ween made their triumphant return after not performing together for over four years. Having not played together since December 31st, 2011, the reunion brought Dean Ween and Gene Ween together again with Claude Coleman Jr. on drums, Dave Dreiwitz on bass, and Glenn McClelland on keys for one of the most satisfying musical combinations to grace our palettes: The Return of The Boognish.

Last week, Dean promised 94 songs, with no repeats, not including fan requests (which, according to Dean, they always take). That averages at a minimum of 31 songs per night over their three-night stand at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, CO. Night one brought a whopping 33 songs!
The night opened with “What Deaner Was Talkin’ About” from their 1994 Chocolate & Cheese record, flipping forward to “Buckingham Green” from The Mollusk of 1997. By this point, the band was tuned in and the energy was contagious. The vibes carried through from “Beacon Light” to “A Tear For Eddie,” incorporating comedic classics like “Bananas and Blow” and “Roses Are Free.” The hits kept coming in, all staying true to old school 90’s Boognish.

The setlist continued in a diverse fashion, bringing in fan-favorites like “Waving My Dick in the Wind” and “Big Jilm” as well as more recent tunes like “Your Party” and “Boys Club.” The night also offered a live debut of “How High Can You Fly?” from the 2005 Shinola, Vol. 1. The weirdness continued with the extended jams of “Licking the Palm For Guava” straight into “Mushroom Festival in Hell.” Overall, they were hard, soft, tough, raw, pretty, ugly, Ween.

“Ooh Va La”
Without any real method to their madness, the band sounded better than ever, staying true to their roots in this unpredictable setting. “Don’t Laugh (I Love You),” they reminded us. Pulling songs out of every hat they’ve ever worn, the night ended with a straight “Homo Rainbow.” The encore brought high-levels of energy with “Fiesta” and “Buenas Tardes Amigo,” leaving all fans ready to party their way into the next two days. Because one thing’s for certain: The Boognish is Back!
