Third Man Records and Misfire have unveiled a new podcast, Striped: The Story Of The White Stripes, dedicated to the history of the iconic Detroit-bred rock duo, The White Stripes. The debut of the podcast comes on the heels of The White Stripes releasing a never-before-heard audio recording of their 1999 performance in Athens, GA via popular concert audio hub Nugs.net.

Hosted by music journalist Sean Cannon, season one of Striped takes listeners through the early years of the band led by Jack White and Meg White “by talking to the people who witnessed it all firsthand — from a young Jack White practicing loudly in his attic to The White Stripes wowing their tourmates Pavement in late 1999.” Special guests on the podcast will include members of The MC5, Pavement, The Raconteurs, The Detroit Cobras, The Dirtbombs, The Soledad Brothers, filmmaker Lance Bangs, and more.

Third Man Records co-founder and White Stripes archivist Ben Blackwell was a driving force behind the production of the new podcast. “Lately I’ve been afraid of getting in a car crash and having my last dying words be ‘shit, I really should’ve gotten the White Stripes story down for posterity,’” Blackwell explained in a statement. “This is my attempt to avail myself to somewhat less lame last words.”
