Widespread Panic completed their three-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the absolute best way possible. After three nights of deep-digging through their extensive catalogue, the band returned for their final encore on Sunday night sporting “Grease” t-shirts in honor of their fallen friend Col. Bruce Hampton. The triple encore opened with Ain’t Life Grand‘s “Jack,” then featured a Col. Bruce Hampton staple “I’m So Glad,” which had not been played by Widespread Panic since 7/8/03, and closed with a cover of Blind Faith‘s “Can’t Find My Way Home.”

Of course, many members of Widespread Panic were present during Col. Bruce Hampton’s 70th birthday celebration at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, when he collapsed on the stage and passed away. It’s become the norm to celebrate the “Godfather of Jam” in live performances since, especially by those who were there for the legendary occasion — but in true Widespread Panic fashion, it took them some time, as their previous festival appearances were just too soon after the unexpected death. Sunday night’s tribute proved exactly why.

Earlier in the evening, the show was highlighted by “Gelleon” in the first set, which had not been played since 7/21/01, and an Allman Brothers Band‘s “Mountain Jam” tease during “Rebirtha.” During the second set, Panic brought back “E on a G,” which had not been played since 11/16/01.
