Widespread Panic got started on their 2021 tour a little early on Thursday with a Tunes for Tots benefit show at Denver’s Mission Ballroom ahead of their three-night, tour-opening run at Red Rocks this weekend.

The Mission Ballroom Tunes for Tots show raised money to support music education on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, home to approximately 30,000 people of the Oglala Lakota Nation.

Even beyond raising money for musical instruments and scholastic music programs for the underserved youths on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Thursday’s Widespread Panic show arrived with particular significance: it marked the band’s first live show since they closed out a five-night run in New York just weeks before the pandemic brought live music to a halt for over a year.
