Earlier today, Widespread Panic keyboardist JoJo Hermann spoke about the band’s future plans in an interview with the Clarion-Ledger in Mississippi, following a two-night stand at the Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, MS. While the interview mostly discussed the band’s Southern cultural legacy and musical history, some interesting quotes from Hermann confirmed that the band would be lightening their load in the coming years.

“We’re really wearing it out this year because we’re basically going to call it touring-wise after this year; we’re not going to tour anymore,” said Hermann in the interview. The article reads that the band “will continue to play shows at places like New Orleans Jazz Fest and at Red Rocks.”

Hermann emphasizes that the band isn’t breaking up by any means. “We’re still all brothers and still going to play together … It is really not that big of a deal, I don’t think.” He continued, “It’s part of life… I’ll go home and figure out what I’m going to do for the rest of my life. I will probably go back to Proud Larry’s (in Oxford) and set up a piano.”

The news comes just a few months after founding drummer Todd Nance briefly reunited with the group at Panic En La Playa, only to announce that those were his final performances as a member of Widespread Panic. Today also marked guitarist John Bell’s 54th birthday.

We’ll be sure to update on this news once we have more information.
