Wilco recently stopped by Seattle’s KEXP to discuss and perform a few songs from the band’s new album, Cousin.

The sextet comprised of Jeff Tweedy (guitar/vocals), John Stirratt (bass/vocals), Glenn Kotche (drums), Nels Cline (guitars), Patrick Sansone (guitars/vocals/keys), Mikael Jorgensen (keys) offered four songs from their 13th studio album starting with “Pittsburgh”. After playing “Levee”, the album’s title track, “Cousin”, and “Soldier Child”, Jeff Tweedy spoke with host Cheryl Waters about the new album, discussing the band’s experience working with producer Cate Le Bon (Kurt Vile, Deerhunter).

“She tends to really gravitate towards icier sounds and chorus and some things that I think we’ve maybe overlooked a little bit from our palette over the years,” he explained. “I think it’s a really fantastically powerful addition to the record, that sort of experimental pop sound, yet you still recognize it obviously as Wilco.”

He went on to talk about introducing the new material into their live set, songwriting and creative inspiration, and more. Watch the full Wilco performance and Jeff Tweedy interview on KEXP below.
