Wilco turned in a star-studded Tuesday show at the band’s Sky Blue Sky destination event in Riviera Maya, Mexico. For its second of three concerts at the Hard Rock Hotel, Wilco invited Mavis StaplesKurt Vile, and Soccer Mommy to the stage throughout the set.

Tuesday’s concert once again saw a consortium of keyboardists fill in for Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen, who is out for the week after testing positive for COVID-19. In his stead, a rotating cast of Liam Kazar, Macie Stewart (Ohmme), and Sima Cunningham took turns behind the keys for the 22-song set.

The first guest appearance came midway through the set as Sophie Allison—better known by her stage name Soccer Mommy—joined Wilco on “Pot Kettle Black”. Later on in the set, Kurt Vile took vocals on the anthem for the license impaired, “Passenger Side”. The set then closed out with an expanded backing band that included James Elkington on electric guitar, Chris Funk on banjitar, Cunningham and Stewart on vocals, and Kazar on keyboard and vocals for the Woody Guthrie-penned “California Stars”.

Returning to the stage, Wilco invited up Mavis Staples who lent her voice to “You Are Not Alone”. Though the legendary singer doesn’t have her own solo set at Sky Blue Sky, the event promised guest appearances by her throughout the festival. Staples then stuck around for The Staples Singers‘ “Freedom Highway” to close out the show.
