On Wednesday, the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers Wing held its annual Grammy Week celebration in Los Angeles, in celebration of Willie Nelson being their 2019 honoree. The 85-year old country music icon is the 11th artist to be recognized by the Producers & Engineers Wing. Past honorees include Neil Young, Jack White, T Bone Burnett, Alicia Keys, Nile Rodgers, and Swizz Beatz.

Currently more than 6,000 professionals comprise The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing, which was established for producers, engineers, remixers, manufacturers, technologists, and other related creative and technical professionals in the recording field. This organized voice for the recording community addresses issues that effect the craft of recorded music, including the development and implementation of new technologies, technical guidelines and recommendations, and archiving and preservation initiatives.

Willie’s sons Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson were on hand to honor their father, as Lukas and Micah first worked through a take on “Crazy” featuring Dave Matthews. The all-star cast then moved into a heartfelt rendition of “Living in the Promiseland”, inviting Willie to join them on his soulful 1986 tune. Willie, Lukas, Micah, Dave, and the house band ended the medley with “On The Road Again”, leaving every person in attendance amazed at Willie’s sharpness and strength at his wise old-age.
