Willie Nelson and his sons Lukas and Micah “stopped by” The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform “Hello Walls” on Monday. The new quarantine edition of The Late Show, dubbed ‘Stephen At Home’, hosted the Nelson family from their home in Luck, TX.

Even though Willie was hosting his own live stream event, Come and Toke It in honor of 4/20, him and his boys set aside time to perform for Colbert. Willie chose “Hello Walls”, a song he wrote but was originally recorded by singer Faron Young. Nelson dedicated the song to Young, who died in 1996.

The song begins with Willie greeting the titular walls, to which his sons respond with a friendly “hello” in a falsetto register. As the three acoustic guitars build a rich melody, Willie passes the baton to Micah for the second verse, who ultimately cedes to Lukas for the third. The song is a true family affair as each Nelson boy adds his own vocal touches to the song from 1961, long before Nelson had either of his sons. Even though Willie is starting to get on in years and his decades on the road are starting to show more than ever, these sessions with his sons appear to be giving him some semblance of youth.
