Worship My Organ, a long-running tradition during New Orleans Jazz Fest season, will return in 2023 with a Saturday night blowout at The Howlin’ Wolf on Saturday, May 6th at 1:30 a.m. (technically early-morning May 7th). The 2023 edition of Worship My Organ will showcase a pair of renowned organists, John Medeski and Wil Blades, alongside versatile drummer Adam Deitch (Lettuce) and enigmatic saxophonist Skerik. The show will also feature support from DJ Logic. Get your tickets here.
Last year, Worship My Organ occupied a late-night slot during the “daze between” Jazz Fest weekends at New Orleans, LA’s One Eyed Jacks with Medeski, Deitch, and Skerik alongside Robert Walter (Mike Gordon, The Greyboy Allstars) and surprise guest Neal Francis.
The combo of Medeski, Deitch, and Skerik has previously recorded and performed as DRKWAV, an increasingly rare outlet for avant-garde exploration by the three master improvisers. With the addition of lauded San Francisco organist Wil Blades to that mix, Adam Deitch explained, you could also refer to the 2023 Worship My Organ lineup by an alternate name: “DRK BLADES is coming to freak y’all out!!” the drummer said in an announcement post. “Total improv freak show with the legends John Medeski, Skerik and Wil Blades guaranteed to stimulate your weirder side!”
For 2023, organizers Live For Live Music and GMP Live have pushed the performance to the larger The Howlin’ Wolf and a second-Saturday, late-night time slot to give even more fans the chance to revel in the rare magic of this perennial Jazz Fest season highlight.
