Yola continued her Stand For Myself tour on Saturday with a stop at The Eastern in Atlanta, GA. The show came as the British singer-songwriter continues her U.S. tour in support of her 2021 sophomore album.

Saturday’s show was loaded with offerings from the new LP including “Diamond Studded Shoes”, “Dancing Away In Tears”, “Great Divide”, the album’s title track, and more. The concert also featured cuts from Yola’s 2019 debut Walk Through Fire alongside well-chosen covers of Elton John‘s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, Aretha Franklin‘s “Day Dreaming”, and Anita Baker‘s “Sweet Love”.

On her second album, Yola fiercely reclaims her identity at a critical early-career juncture. After making a grand debut on the Americana scene in 2019 with the Dan Auerbach-produced Walk Through Fire, the artist born Yolanda Quartey stands for herself as she delivers homages to the 90’s hip-hop and R&B that she was brought up with. Defying any inclinations toward tokenism from the country and folk circuit, this independence has made her even more alluring as an artist. Next month, Yola will support country powerhouse Chris Stapleton for a run of shows in Ohio and Kentucky.
