Yonder Mountain String Band delivered its first sold-out, non socially distanced concert on Thursday at Vail, CO’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater. The concert came as part of the GoPro Mountain Games series that continues throughout the weekend, highlighted by a two-night run by Bob Weir & Wolf Bros.

The concert came after months of pandemic-minded programming from the jamgrass stalwarts. In the mountain town of Vail, amongst an extensive lineup that includes The Shakedown Band featuring members of The Motet, as well as Rocky Mountain Review featuring Rob Eaton of Dark Star Orchestra, YMSB was able to bask in the communal return of live music.

The setlist saw Yonder run through a slew of well-received covers, some more conventional than others. Beginning with “If You’re Ever In Oklahoma” by J.J. Cale, things quickly took a hard left turn with “20 Eyes” by Misfits. The covers kept on coming with “Two Hits and the Joint Burned Down” by Dillard-Hartford-Dillard, “White Freight Liner Blues” by Townes Van Zandt, and “Brown Eyed Women” by the Grateful Dead.

Yonder’s set also included its fair share of original material, with spirited runs through “All The Time”, “On The Run”, “Another Day”, and more. The band also let loose that it had recorded a full album during the pandemic, and even offered the debut of a new track.
