On Friday, December 28th, Zigaboo Modeliste will celebrate his 70th birthday and 50 years of serving up New Orleans’ funkiest beats at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, CA. DJ Harry Duncan will open up the party with a mix of soul, funk, and classic R&B, before Zigaboo and The New Aahkesstra take the stage with special guest and Meters bandmate George Porter, Jr., who will also be celebrating a birthday that week. As the press release notes, it’ll be “Double your Party, Double your Fun—We celebrating 2 birthdays in one.”

As members of The Meters, Zigaboo Modeliste and George Porter Jr. were both recently honored by the Recording Academy with a 2018 GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, along with fellow honorees The Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, Queen, Frank Sinatra, and Tina Turner.

To see these two in action, catch them together again at Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, CA on Friday, December 28th around 8 pm. For more information, head here.
