Last night, Jazz Is Phish made their debut at the Brooklyn Bowl with an electric, two-set performance of interpretive Phish music. Led by brothers Adam and Matt Chase, who currently play in Strange Design, the band featured members of The Giant Country Horns, Snarky Puppy, Victor Wooten Band, Sun Ra Arkestra, Dave Matthews Band/The Flecktones and more!

With the excitement of Phish hitting Madison Square Garden for four nights over New Year’s Eve, New York fans were certainly eager to get dancing to some of the band’s exciting music. Jazz Is Phish did not disappoint, entertaining with their unique interpretations on some of Phish’s classics.

The night started off with a voluminous “Sun Ra Introduction” before settling into their first Phish tune of the night, “Dog Log.” The band wasted no time getting funky on “46 Days,” and had the crowd singing along to their instrumental take on “NICU” featuring Chad Dinzes, keyboardist of Strange Design.

The band was then joined by Phish-interpretive pianist Holly Bowling for a spectacular version of “Wilson,” which you can enjoy below:

Other highlights from the show included a jammed out “Meat,” again featuring Bowling, and a fiery “Moma Dance” towards the beginning of the second set. From there, bassist Anthony Wellington took some time out for a solo, delighting the venue with Christmas tunes played unaccompanied on the bass.

The final two songs of the second set, “Lawn Boy” and “Magilla,” featured the saxophone work of James Casey, perhaps best known for his role in the Trey Anastasio Band. Casey returned once more, as well as Ms. Bowling, for the encore performance of “Camel Walk.” The big jam left the crowd smiling, eager for more Phish music in just a couple short weeks.
