With one sharp guitar chord, there’s no denying that Love is here to save the day. That Love is none other than G. Love & Special Sauce, who released their eighth studio album last Friday, October 30th. When you turn on Love Saves The Day, that sloppy rockin’ blues hits you hard and never relents. Yeah, this new album is a groove.

The album starts with the title track, “Love Saves The Day”. It’s the type of grungy blues rocker that we’ve come to know and love from G. Love, picking up the pace and locking in the listener from the first notes. Complete with soulful guitarwork and energetic grooves, not to mention a little extra lovin’ from David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), it’s an excellent way to kick off this exceptional record.

Of course, it’s hard to discuss Love Saves The Day without mentioning all of the guest stars that appear throughout the album. Among them, the collaboration between G. Love and Lucinda Williams stands out as one of the best. It’s a boogie woogie shuffle, and the two strong vocalists compliment each other perfectly. It’s impossible not to dance along with this tune!

Another noteworthy moment on the album comes in the collaboration with Citizen Cope on the song “Muse”. Here we get a taste of some acoustic guitar for a “Midnight Rider”-esque jam, slow and brooding before unleashing a whirlwind of energy. With some supporting brass, the song breaks out into an all-out party! Enjoy:

DJ Logic, Ozomatli and Kristy Lee are also featured guests on Love Saves The Day, bringing their unique sounds to this bluesy release. With its self-referential title, it’s safe to say that G. Love is here to save to day on this new release. Out of the malaise and into the ether, Love Saves The Day is here to stay. Listen to more tracks on YouTube here, and head to G.
