Back in April, the stars aligned for a picture-perfect weekend in St. Augustine, FL for the first annual Fool’s Paradise festival. Our thoughts and prayers are with the beach town this weekend, as Hurricane Matthew proved its strength in destroying its beloved terrains. Many people are trapped by the rising waters, with homes destroyed left and right. In honor of this precious place, we are looking back at Fool’s Paradise with full hearts.

The first annual event featured an awesome variety of musical talent from across the funk music spectrum, with GRiZ, Chris Robinson’s Soul Revue, Vulfpeck, The Nth Power, Goldfish and more all laying down classic sets at the St. Augustine Amphitheater. However, it was the host band, Lettuce, that really worked their magic, with two awesome headlining sets, and a special collaborative performance with GRiZ.

The show featured several classic Lett tunes, with “Madison Square”, “Yakatori”, “Chief”, and “Break Out” all making early appearances in the set, before Weedie Braimah of The Nth Power joined drummer Adam Deitch for an awesome percussion feature. The band closed things out by bringing out vocalist Nigel Hall for high-energy takes on “Do It Like You Do” and Curtis Mayfield‘s “Move On Up.”

Thanks to YouTube user TheSoberGoat, we can relive this set in all of its glory. Check out the video below, and enjoy ninety minutes of pure power-funk!
