Currently making strides in the constantly evolving Brooklyn music scene, the origin story of NJ-based rockers The Big Drops couldn’t be any further from pavement and concrete. The band was formed in 2011 when brothers Greg (lead vox, rhythm guitar) and Vramshabouh Kherlopian (lead guitar, backing vox) spent three years living together in a small log cabin. They bought their own recording equipment, and went through numerous lineup changes before finding Caleb Estey (drums) and Steve Donahue (bass) in 2015.

Now, The Big Drops are readying up to self-release their debut full length album Time, Color out June 23rd. Channeling genre-hopping forebears, Time, Color finds The Big Drops running through a sonic wilderness inspired by left-of-center pop music of the late 1960s and contemporary musicians with subtle electronic tendencies.

Live For Live Music is excited to share the first single from the release, “Gong Gong Jar,” below:

“We feel like our music touches on a variety of different vibes and colors,” explains Vramshabouh of the new album. “So we like to think the overall theme of this album is about diversity of life, the different emotions there are, and how we can express various feelings while still being the same person. Essentially, life is complex and beautiful, and that’s our theme.”

He continues, “This song is about letting go of the imaginary drug induced monkey inside your head and going with the flow of it all. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. The aristocrats sucking up to the king. The monkey’s in control of the human spaceship.”
