moe. is the headliner for this year’s Catskill Chill Music Festival, and the band has plans to make it a one-of-a-kind performance their fans won’t soon forget. While the setlist has yet to be created, guitarist Chuck Garvey says festival-goers can expect to hear some deep cuts and experience some unique jams.
“Playing a festival like Catskill Chill, where a lot of the people will probably know our music, we can go deeper into our catalog and pull out something a bit different or more ambitious,” he divulges. “I remember talking [with the band] about unearthing some of our older songs we haven’t played in a while that haven’t been done yet.” Garvey also notes moe. recently “dusted off a cover or two” that might find their way into the upcoming performance.

Garvey also reveals the guys may be inviting some of the other acts on the bill to share the stage with them for a song or two. “If there are some friends of ours that are going to be there the day we’re performing, anything can happen,” he reveals. “Zappa Plays Zappa is playing Chill on a different day than us, but we’ve had their whole band come on stage and perform with us, which was fun.” If another group does join them onstage, the guitarist expects the collective will play “one of our own songs, unless it’s a cover we have in common.”

The decision to headline this year’s Chill festival came after the guys announced they’d be taking a year off from staging their annual moe.down event. Garvey says the vibe of the Chill suits the band well, and the chance to perform there was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up. “We wanted to choose a couple of things carefully, and Catskill Chill just sounded like a really good way to end our festival season,” he declares. Garvey adds moe. has a “strong connection” to their fans in New York state – especially since they formed the group at the University at Buffalo in 1989 — and that factored into their decision to headline at the Chill. “Whenever we play anywhere in the northeast, there are a lot of people that we know, who have been coming to see us for years and years,” he explains. “The excitement level is a bit different than other places in the country. The idea of playing at Chill at this time of year sounded awesome to us.”
