Britain’s The New Mastersounds and Brooklyn’s Turkuaz are doing something totally different. As the ultimate musical compliment, the two groups have joined together to play each other’s music and record the massive collaboration as a two-track release. The Split 7″ EP features both bands performing a cover song from the other artist’s catalog, while also joining in on the collaboration. Today, the funk squads are pleased to debut their first track, along with a music video, which features Turkuaz covering The New Mastersounds’ song “On The Border”. Watch the video below, exclusively through Live For Live Music:

The two tracks were recorded over two days at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA where all members of both groups shacked up before playing High Sierra Music Festival this past summer. The session made for exciting results with each band putting a fresh take on each other’s songs. The music video, directed by Dani Brandwein, pulls back the blinds on the session that also served as the first time both bands had ever been in the same room together.

With their joint tour now underway, the official digital release date has been set for Friday, October 14.  The limited edition vinyl format is now available for purchase through both band’s fan club ticketing, here and there. It will also be exclusively available at shows along the band’s co-headline US Fall Tour. Catch this monstruous collaboration on the road, as the tour caravans all four corners of the country and blankets both East and West Coasts.

The super crew hits the Boulder Theater tonight in Boulder, CO! With the nine-piece funk powerhouse Turkuaz bringing their electric live performance, along with the old-school soul jazz, boogaloo stylings of The New Mastersounds under one roof, it’s going to be a straight Friday night getdown (tickets available here).  Don’t miss out!
